Crossing Over

Crossing over from crystal is the source of the "crystals" from said beach: Jökulsarlon, or the glacial lagoon.  It doesnt matter how many times one goes there. its never the same lagoon. The sun rises behind you as you face the lagoon, and as it sets from the west, the low sun refracts through the blacks of Ice to spectacular effect.

You will have to imagine all of that for right now, beacause Frank and I were not so luckcy when we arrived. after our spectacular sunrise on crystal beach, the clouds came over and that was that. Here are results of our endeavours.

End of day 1: Vik

To tie up day one of our road trip, we made a short stop at Vik, with its iconic sea stack. As the sun sank below the horizon at Dyrhóleay in the last, we stopped to enjoy the magic hour in Vik, embers of the golden, low sun and the rich blues from the sea and horizon. I included both sides of the cliff, for context.

Fun and Snow

It's well known that the weather in Iceland is unpredictable. This is a pain, some of the time. Other times, it yield lovely blankets of snow which last only a day or two. Whe I visited this exact location a week later, it was all gone.

This mine and Frank's second "test" day, and it was the day be fare we hit the road all the way around.

So I (rather, we, or maybe just I) decided to bring out the inner lifestyle blogger and grab a selection of shots from this serene moment. I enlisted Frank's help for this.

Reykjanes & New Friends

Over Iceland airwaves, I met a guy called Frank. This was the first day that frank and I really started to shoot together. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we knew we had to do something bigger: two days later, we set of on a great adventure around the whole ring road of Iceland.  it was a heck of journey. Full story coming soon.

For now, take in these shots from our first day out shooting together in Iceland's Reykjanes peninsula. We were even lucky enough to catch the northern lights over the moss fields.

From The Show Shutter to Joe Shutter

This is my first post under my new identity. The need for a change in branding stems from a a spread in my photographic interests over the course of the summer. The Show Shutter was all about shows; with the outlets for my music photography, a wen magazine that I regularly shoot for, www.albumm.is  and the newspaper that I publish with weekly, www.ske.is

Joe Shutter focuses on my non-music exploits: the exploration of the country in which I live, Iceland, as well as any other travels I can undertake, given half a chance. It's my take on Iceland, what I get up to and, how get around, who I got around with and maybe same mention of the gear that I use to capture it all.
